
AMC 12
What it is:
The American Mathematics Competition 12 (AMC12) is a 25-question, 75-minute multiple-choice exam covering the full high school curriculum, including trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry—but excluding calculus. It is one of the most acknowledged math competitions in the US, as well as in the world.
Participants:
Students in grade 12 or below, under 19.5 years of age on the contest day.
History:
AMC 12 originated as the American High School Mathematics Examination (AHSME) in the early 1950s. In 2000, this contest was split into AMC 10 and AMC 12.
